Drying out at Fowey

Drying out at Fowey
Salcombe To Fowey
Another slow day generally, but one that turned out better than expected.

Getting out of Salcombe was as much of a mission as one would expect, including being waylaid to try out the phenomenally expensive bacon sarnies available near the pontoon.

Once out the wind dies completely for a good hour or so before filling in to a f2 from the NW.

This got us out to a point where we were joined by a school of dolphins who came and said hello.

Thinking that we could only really expect to get to Plymouth we tacked and headed that way, the wind varying in strength and direction. A few miles outside of Plymouth we sailed into a big header which after we tacked turned into a terrific long stbd tack beat all the way down the coast. At one point when we hit about 10 knots of boatspeed we even thought we might get to Falmouth. This was optimistic but we did eventually make it into the delightful village of Fowey.

We quickly found a pontòon which seemed moderately legal and managed to get some much needed drying out done. A big shout out here to Louis, the Skipper of the fine Westerley Fulmar 'Myrtle' of Brightlingsea . Louis just wanted a chat but his two pet humans Ray and ..... oh dear...it'll come to us .. how embarrassing
.... kept us stocked with some excellent quality tea and appreciated the Brightlingsea connection with Double Sovereign (DS was born in Brightlingsea and indeed Ray knew her creator Reg White). They also trusted us to take their tender ashore to stock up on food which was much appreciated and really made Fowey the stopover of the trip so far.
